About IdeaX

about

MBM IdeaX – ICT for Indigenous Languages is a 48-hour on-site hackathon that aims to bring together young people from all over Nepal to generate innovative and creative solutions for preserving and promoting indigenous languages, cultures, practices and communities using ICT. This hackathon is a part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL) mission to save, preserve, and promote Indigenous languages that are at the verge of loss. IdeaX is completely focused on helping people under Indigenous Domain. The event is organized by Madan Bhandari Memorial College in collaboration with UNESCO Nepal.

What is IDIL?

The United Nations General Assembly (Resolution A/RES/74/135) proclaimed the period between 2022 and 2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (IDIL 2022-2032), to draw global attention on the critical situation of many indigenous languages and to mobilize stakeholders and resources for their preservation, revitalization and promotion.

The proclamation of an International Decade is a key outcome of the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages, for which the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) lead global efforts. The Organization will continue to serve as lead UN Agency for the implementation of the International Decade, in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and other relevant UN Agencies.

FAQS

A hackathon is an event where people come to learn, network and enjoy while developing a solution for a presented problem.

IdeaX aims to bring together young people from all over Nepal to generate ideas and solutions for preserving and promoting indigenous languages using ICT.

Hackathon on Indigenous Domain promotes the preservation, learning, accessibility, and promotion of endangered indigenous practices and cultures through innovative technological solutions.

Preserving, promoting, and revitalizing indigenous languages is crucial because these Languages, Cultures, Practices and Communities are integral to Nepal’s cultural identity and heritage of indigenous communities. They contain valuable knowledge, traditions, skills and ways of life that have been passed down through generations. By protecting and promoting these identities, we can help ensure their survival, sustainability and contribute to the cultural diversity and richness of our world.

Yes. You need to have at least some experience of having fun and enjoying the circle. Experience for hackathon? Well, you'll get to earn that here with us!!

"Alone we can do so little, but together we can achieve greatness. While individual efforts may spark innovation, it is the power of collaboration that brings forth true transformation."

While you are not allowed to bring your past hackathon projects, you are more than welcome to bring the experience and learnings from your previous hackathons.

Hackathon is all about networking! If a hackathon doesn’t provide this to you, is it even considered a hackathon?

Your project is just the beginning of a possible big change. An investor coming to the hackathon might love your idea, or even you can make this “The Idea”. It’s all up to you.
